The Human Eye

Millions of years of evolution have resulted in this complex organ called the human eye. Our eyes are the window to the world as is considered to be one of our most precious organs. The rod and cone cells in the retina give our eyes the ability to differentiate depth and to see over 10 million colors.

The eye is actually comprised of two units fused together as has three key components. The outermost layer is composed of the cornea and sclera. The middle layer is made up of the choroid, ciliary body and iris; and the innermost layer is the iris.

Our field of view is about 130°-135° vertical and 200° horizontal; and has a contrast ratio of about 100,000:1. So important are our eyes that we have developed amazing technology to augment, improve and enhance our vision and view of the world around us.
